I also undertake medicolegal work, specialising in shoulder and elbow injuries.
My practice is based in Central and South West London
Experience
I have been a consultant in a major NHS teaching hospital for over 20 years and have provided second opinions and revision surgery both nationally and internationally over this time.
I have worked with the major orthopaedic associations (the British elbow & Shoulder Society and the British Orthopaedic Association) and have been involved in the evaluation and development of surgical practice.
I am the appraisal lead for surgery and anaesthetics at St. Georges Hospital as well as being a medical appraiser.
I am an examiner for the FRCS(Orth) exam and have been involved in the evaluation of CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) for the General Medical Council.
I have also been a panel member for a Royal College of Surgeons invited review of surgeons practice.
I have attended the InspireMedilaw Expert Witness training course as well as a number of medicolegal conferences.
For patients
Surgery (and medicine in general) is safe and, in the majority of cases, patients symptoms improve. Unfortunately this is not always the case and this may be due to an error or it may simply be no one’s fault.
A medical expert is asked by the lawyers to look through all the evidence and prepare a report. This is to explain what happened, to offer an opinion on how it happened and if anyone was responsible and to say what the outcome will most probably be.
It is important to be aware that as a medical expert witness I will not share a doctor patient relationship with you. If I am reporting my opinion on your case my responsibility is to give the court the most accurate report on the events. I cannot also be involved in treating you as a doctor.
I will be completely independent. It does not matter if it is your lawyers or the other side’s lawyers that ask me for the report.
If you are attending for a medicolegal examination please expect the consultation to last up to two hours. I will take a full history and examine you fully. You will be free to bring family members, friends or any other person you wish with you to the consultation. Please wear clothing that makes the examination comfortable for you.
