I qualified from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College in 1992 and after training in London and on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital training program I spent a year on a sports and arthroscopy fellowship in Richmond, Virginia before returning and being appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in shoulder & elbow surgery at St. George’s Hospital in 2003. I was appointed a Reader in Orthopaedic Education at St. George’s University of London in 2015 and Professor of Orthopaedic Education in 2018.

My particular surgical interests are arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) and the management of trauma to the shoulder.

Arthroscopy

Keyhole surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow including stabilisation for dislocation, rotator cuff repair, biceps tenodesis and treatment of acromioclavicular joint arthritis.

I performed the first Superior Capsule Reconstruction for massive rotator cuff tears in the UK and am recognised as one of the countries foremost experts in this procedure as well as AC Joint stabilisation and Lower Trapezius Tendon Transfers.

Joint Replacement

I routinely perform both total shoulder and elbow replacementt as well as reverse shoulder replacement both in the NHS and privately.

All patients are entered into the National Joint Registry and are followed for life as part of ensuring the best outcomes.

Trauma

As part of a Major Trauma Centre I regularly manage injuries to the shoulder and elbow including collarbone (clavicle) and acromioclavicular joint injuries. Both arthroscopic and more conventional techniques are used where appropriate.
